[Colegio Internacional de San Salvador]-- [Maya]
        COLEGIO INTERNACIONAL DE SAN SALVADOR

Mission statement: …to develop compassionate, inquisitive, and ethical learners prepared for roles of leadership in the global community.

Description: Colegio Internacional de San Salvador is a private school located in a converted mansion in an upper-middle class residential section of San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador. It was founded in 1979 and enrolls 330 students from kinder through 12th grade. About 45% of the students are from El Salvador, 25%, from the USA and the remaining 30% from 30 or so countries around the world.
Instruction is basically in English with either regular or special Spanish required of all students. The 38 faculty members are about half from the US and the others from El Salvador. A few are from third countries (India, etc.).
Colegio Internacional believes in multi-cultural and individualized learning and a strong emphasis is placed on sports.
The school day is from 8:00 to 3:00, Monday through Friday. The calendar is from August to June.
Although we believe that a strong religious foundation is an important element in the development of a child, no particular religious doctrine is imparted during class hours.
Our visiting students always present a cultural program about El Salvador and are prepared to talk to classes and community groups about life here.
CISS is proud to be a member of ISSE since 1983.

      MAYA SCHOOL

Mission statement: To provide an excellent bilingual program which develops values, skills and attitudes in each student, enabling him/her to lead a productive and well balanced life.

Description: The Maya School was established in 1994 as the result of the effort of teachers committed to provide the best conditions for child development and learning. It was agreed at that time that a friendly, intimate setting should be established, in which individual progress could be closely monitored, difficulties readily identified and where no child would be overlooked. We now have approximately 400 students. Each class has from 15 to 20 students. The Maya School offers a fully bilingual English-Spanish program. Textbooks and teaching materials used by the American school system have been carefully selected. Our teaching staff is highly qualified and fully bilingual. One of our strengths is the personal attention given to each child, also we offer strong moral and intellectual foundations that will lead children towards excellence and harmony. Students, parents, and teachers work as a team to achieve goals. Along the years, we have sheltered children from other countries, as we believe that interacting with different races and nationalities is a great way to learn about other cultures, as an approach to fraternity, and creating new relationships.
